We went looking for the source. We could not find one.
What manufacturers publish is an application temperature range — the conditions the installer should be working in. Gtechniq specifies 5 to 25°C for Crystal Serum Light. GYEON specifies 15 to 25°C for outdoor application. CarPro's North American guidance for CQuartz UK 3.0 gives 40 to 90°F. Ceramic Pro's ION instructions call for indoor application at 25°C. Every one of those numbers describes the moment of application.
Not one of them is a minimum cure temperature. Across the technical documentation for the major brands, we could not locate a single published figure below which a coating is stated to stop curing. The thresholds quoted everywhere online appear to be detailing-blog convention that hardened into fact through repetition.
This matters because it changes what you should actually be worried about. Cold does not switch curing off. The chemistry these coatings rely on — silica networks forming as the applied layer condenses and hardens — slows as temperature falls, the way most chemical reactions do. That is a rate problem, not a failure point. The genuine risks in a Calgary autumn are not thermal at all. They are liquid water on an unhardened surface, and road salt arriving before you are allowed to wash it off.
