If it's a daily driver that bakes in a parking lot, or you just hate a hot cabin, go ceramic ($299+) for the up-to-88% infrared heat rejection. You'll feel the difference the first sunny afternoon. Same clean look either way — ceramic just does more work on the heat.

Ceramic runs about 30-50% more than carbon, and it's not a markup gimmick. Carbon is a dyed film — good privacy, 99% UV protection, a clean dark look that won't purple — but its heat rejection is standard. Ceramic uses non-metallic nano-ceramic particles that block the infrared heat you actually feel, up to 88%, while staying signal-friendly for GPS, cell, and radar cruise. You're paying for the heat performance and the material, not the colour.

The $650 ceramic adds up to 88% infrared heat rejection, a noticeably cooler cabin on hot days, better clarity, and a transferable warranty. If your car sits out in the sun a lot or you drive it daily, the ceramic is the upgrade you'll actually feel.

Does the price cover my rear window and the whole car?

Depends on the coverage you pick. A two-window pair starts at $249 carbon / $299 ceramic. Adding the rear doors and rear glass (three windows) runs $399-$499. A full vehicle — the 5 to 7 windows on most sedans and SUVs — is $449 in carbon and $649 for full ceramic. Larger vehicles and complex rear glass (Teslas, for example) add a bit. You'll get an exact number for your specific vehicle, not a rounded guess.

Can you legally tint my front windows in Alberta?

Straight answer: in Alberta, aftermarket tint isn't legal on your front side windows or the windshield — only a tinted strip along the top, above the AS1 line. The one exception is a medical exemption, and even then the film has to be clear (50%+ VLT), not a dark shade. What we can put on the front is a near-clear ceramic film that blocks heat and UV without darkening the glass. Rear side windows and the rear glass can go as dark as you want, right down to 5% limo. The only things on top of the film price are vehicle-size adjustments for larger SUVs and trucks (+$50-150), old tint removal if your car already has film ($99-199), and any add-ons you choose — a clear windshield or sunroof, say. Will cheap window tint end up costing me more?

It can, yeah. Bargain dyed films use aggressive adhesives that can lift or damage the defroster lines on your rear glass when they eventually come off. They also fade to purple, bubble in the heat, and peel at the edges — and a sloppy install can scratch the glass or leave adhesive haze. Spending a little more on quality film and a clean install protects both your car and the money you put into it.
