I've been a car and motorcycle guy my whole life. Obsidian Auto is the Calgary detailing and paint protection studio I built around one rule I'm honestly a little obsessive about: do it once, do it right — and tell you the truth about what your car actually needs.
How This
Actually Started.
I didn't set out to build a studio. I started out of a van in 2020 as Wash My Ride, detailing cars in Calgary driveways because I loved doing it and I was tired of seeing good paint get wrecked by careless work. That van turned into a real shop, and the obsession never left — four Consumer Choice Awards later, I still inspect every car before it leaves.
Somewhere along the way it stopped being about making cars shiny for a weekend and became about protecting them for years. That's the whole point of what we do now — PPF, ceramic coating, tint, correction. The 705+ reviews at 4.9 stars are nice, but they're really just people saying we treated their car like it was our own. Daily driver or weekend toy, I don't have two standards.

The Passion Behind The Precision
I've been into cars and motorcycles for as long as I can remember — the kind of kid who noticed swirl marks in a parking lot. When I started Wash My Ride in 2020, it wasn't a business plan so much as a way to get paid doing the thing I'd have done for free: making paint look right and keeping it that way.
The more I worked, the more I obsessed over how paint actually behaves — how it chips on Deerfoot, how it dulls under Calgary's high-UV sun, how a bad wash puts more scratches in than it takes out. I'm mildly OCD about getting it right, and I've stopped apologizing for it. That's what turned a detailing van into a paint protection studio.
Rebranding to Obsidian Auto in 2023 wasn't just a new sign on the door — it was me committing fully to protection: ceramic coating, PPF, tint, correction. I still put hands on the work and eyes on every car before it goes home. If it wouldn't pass on my own vehicle, it doesn't leave the shop.
I'd rather lose the sale than sell you protection your car doesn't actually need.

Milestones Along The Way
It started in driveways
I launched Wash My Ride — mobile detailing out of a single van, going driveway to driveway across Calgary. No storefront, just me, my kit, and a stubborn habit of not leaving until the finish was perfect.
Word got around
Turns out people notice when you actually care. The mobile detailing bookings kept coming, mostly from referrals — one clean car in a driveway sold the next one on the street.
From cleaning to protecting
The more paint I worked on, the more I wanted to stop damage before it happened. I leaned hard into ceramic coating and paint protection film — because a great detail lasts a weekend, but real protection lasts years.
Obsidian Auto is born
New name, real studio. I moved out of the van into a climate-controlled shop, invested in proper equipment and digital cutting, and went all-in as a paint protection studio instead of a mobile wash.
