The 12-Point Checklist for Choosing a PPF Installer in Calgary

Brand Certification

Are they a certified installer for 3M, SunTek, or STEK? Certification means the manufacturer has verified their training, facility, and skill level. Without certification, your manufacturer warranty is void from day one — that 10-year warranty becomes worthless paper.

Dedicated Clean Room

Is the PPF installation area a sealed, climate-controlled space with filtered air? Or do they apply film in the same bay where they do oil changes and tire rotations? Dust contamination is the #1 installation defect, and the workspace is the #1 factor. Ask to see the installation room.

Written Workmanship Warranty

Do they offer a written warranty covering their installation work, separate from the film manufacturer warranty? This should cover peeling, bubbling, dust contamination, and alignment issues for 3–5 years minimum. Verbal promises are unenforceable.

Vehicle-Specific Portfolio

Can they show you before-and-after photos of their work on vehicles similar to yours? Every car has unique curves and challenges — a shop that has done 50 BMW X5s will install differently than one doing their first. Ask for model-specific examples.

Edge-Wrapping Standard

Do they wrap edges (film folded around panel boundaries) or use pre-cut patterns with 1/4-inch gaps? Wrapped edges are invisible and durable. Trimmed edges show visible lines and become the primary peeling failure point. This is the single biggest quality differentiator.

Paint Correction Included

Is surface preparation (decontamination + light polish) included in the price? PPF is transparent — swirl marks and water spots get sealed permanently underneath. Shops that skip this step either do not care about the result or are cutting costs at your expense.

Badge Removal

Do they remove badges and trim, or cut film around them? Cutting around badges creates visible lines, traps dirt, and is the hallmark of a rush job. Professional installers remove all badges, apply film underneath, and reinstall cleanly.

Installation Timeline

How long do they quote for your package? A full front done properly takes 1.5–2 days. If someone promises 4 hours, they are skipping paint correction, skipping curing time, and likely using pre-cut patterns. Quality cannot be compressed below a certain time threshold. Google Reviews (Quality, Not Quantity)

Read the recent reviews (last 6 months). Look for specific mentions of PPF quality, edge work, and customer service — not just "great job!" generic reviews. Also look for how the shop responds to negative reviews. Professional shops address complaints openly; defensive shops get hostile.

Years in Business

How long has the shop been operating in Calgary? A 5-year workmanship warranty from a 6-month-old shop carries significant risk. Established shops with 3+ years of Calgary operation are more likely to honour long-term commitments and have the technical experience of hundreds of installations.

Transparent Pricing

Can they tell you the total cost before you bring the car in? Professional shops provide clear package pricing based on vehicle type and coverage level. "We need to see the car first" (for standard packages) suggests they work on variable pricing or add surprise fees.

Vehicle Pick-Up Process

Do they walk you through the finished installation, pointing out each panel and educating you on care? Or do they just hand you the keys in the parking lot? The delivery experience tells you everything about their pride in their work. Shops that rush the handoff did not spend extra time on the details.
