Obsidian Auto no longer sends a van — every detail now happens in our climate-controlled SE Calgary studio, and pickup and delivery replaces mobile, free on Signature and ceramic packages. You still do not drive anywhere. What changes is the result: proper lighting, filtered water, full-size equipment, and in-studio pricing from $149 that sits below our old mobile rates.

What the studio adds that a driveway cannot
This is not a cutback dressed up as an upgrade. Three things decide half of any detailing result, and none of them can be controlled on site.
Inspection lighting
Swirls, holograms and missed panels only show under correction lighting at the right angle. Daylight in a driveway hides them, which is exactly why a mobile finish can look perfect at handover and disappointing the next sunny morning.
Climate control
Sealants, coatings and dressings have a temperature window they bond in. A −20°C January driveway or a +32°C July parking lot is outside it. Our bays hold the range year-round, so nothing gets applied in conditions it will fail in.
Power, water and equipment
Filtered spot-free water instead of hard tap water, full three-phase power, heated extractors, ozone generators and machine polishers that no van carries. Calgary tap water leaves mineral spots on a dark car — that is a water problem, not a technique problem.
There is also a bylaw most people never hear about: Calgary's Stormwater Bylaw prohibits soap or detergent in driveway and street runoff — plain water only. A proper multi-stage wash was never designed for a residential driveway. Our bays are compliant wash bays with reclamation built in.

We've retired our mobile service — not because it didn't sell, but because of a standard we couldn't compromise on. When we were a small team, we could personally control every job on every driveway. As we've grown, the honest truth is that parking lots and driveways come with variables no detailer controls: weather, lighting, dust, water.

Your Driveway vs. Our Studio
Even a skilled mobile detailer is limited by what a van can carry and what a driveway allows. These aren't opinions — they're the working conditions.
Wash runoff facts per the City of Calgary Stormwater Bylaw (37M2005): soap and detergents are prohibited in driveway and street runoff; only plain water is permitted. We have written up which home-wash methods stay on the right side of that rule, including what the restriction stages change.
