What about the Tesla glass roof?
It is the largest piece of glass on the car and the only one pointed straight at the sun. Tesla's factory IR coating helps — it does not finish the job on a +35°C prairie afternoon.
Heat, not light
The roof is where cabin heat-soak comes from. Ceramic film on the panoramic glass is the single biggest temperature change you can make to a parked Tesla in a Calgary summer.
Range you keep
A cooler cabin is less air conditioning, and less air conditioning is battery you keep. It is a small effect per trip and a real one across a summer of outdoor parking.
No shade limit
The roof is not a sightline window, so Alberta puts no VLT restriction on it. Most owners go dark up there and keep the rear sides at a factory-matched 20%.
Is your Tesla tint legal in Alberta?
Alberta's rule is about which glass, not how dark. Behind the driver you can run anything. In front of the driver you cannot run a dark shade at all — no percentage makes it legal.

The medical exemption is real but narrow. Alberta does not set a front-window darkness percentage — it prohibits aftermarket tint on the windshield and both front side windows outright. An approved medical exemption still requires clear UV film at 50% VLT or higher, never a dark shade, and reflective or mirrored film is not legal on any window at any darkness. We only install what is road-legal for your vehicle, and we tell you before we cut.
Ceramic or carbon tint for a Tesla?
On a combustion car this is a comfort question. On an EV it is also a range question — every degree the cabin gains in a parking lot is battery spent cooling it back down.

How long the install takes

Can I tint the front windows on my Tesla in Alberta?
Not with a dark shade. Alberta does not permit aftermarket tint on the front side windows or the windshield — only a tinted strip along the top of the windshield, above the AS1 line. What is legal up front is a near-clear ceramic film that cuts infrared heat and UV without darkening the glass, and that is what we install on the front pair. Rear side windows and the rear glass can go as dark as you want, right down to 5% limo. The one exception up front is a medical exemption, and even then the film has to be 50% VLT or higher — clear, not dark.
Should I tint the Tesla glass roof?
It is the single best-value panel on the car for ceramic film. Tesla ships the roof with factory IR-coated glass, which helps, but on a +30°C Calgary afternoon that roof is still the biggest heat load in the cabin — it is the largest piece of glass on the vehicle and it faces straight up. A ceramic roof film cuts that meaningfully, which means less air conditioning, less battery spent on cabin cooling, and a back seat that is actually usable in July. The roof is not a sightline window, so Alberta puts no shade limit on it.
Does ceramic tint block Tesla signal, sensors or the key card?
No. Ceramic and carbon films contain no metal, so there is nothing to interfere with the phone key Bluetooth, LTE, GPS, the key card reader in the B-pillar, or the cameras. The films you have to avoid are old metallized or reflective ones — those are the ones that cause signal problems, and they are also not legal here. We install nothing metallic on any vehicle.
How long does a Tesla tint install take?
Plan on 2 to 4 hours in the studio. A Model 3 rear-glass-and-sides job is usually closer to 2 hours; a Model Y with quarter panels, or a Model X with falcon-wing doors and the panoramic windshield, runs closer to 4. Add the glass roof and you are at the upper end. The film needs a short cure before you roll the windows down — a day in summer, a few days in a Calgary winter — and any light haze clears on its own as the mounting solution evaporates.
Which tint shade looks right on a Tesla?
Tesla rear glass is already lightly privacy-tinted from the factory, so a 20% ceramic on the rear sides reads as a clean factory match rather than an aftermarket add-on — that is the shade most of our Tesla clients pick. If you want a genuinely dark, private look, 5% on the rear is legal in Alberta. On the front pair you are in near-clear film regardless of taste, so the shade decision only ever applies behind the driver.
Is it worth doing tint and PPF on a Tesla at the same time?
Usually yes, because they are one drop-off instead of two. Tint handles heat, glare and UV; paint protection film handles the rock chips that Deerfoot and Stoney throw at Tesla's notoriously thin factory paint. Booking them together means one intake, one inspection, and one pickup, and the car is out of your hands for a single stretch instead of two separate weeks.
Do you use ceramic film on Teslas, or standard carbon?
We install both — STEK and 3M films — and we will fit either to a Tesla. The reason most Tesla owners land on ceramic is heat: an EV spends real battery cooling a hot cabin, and ceramic rejects far more infrared than carbon does. Carbon is the honest budget choice and it will not purple on you either. If the car lives outdoors in a Calgary summer, ceramic pays for itself in comfort.
